I just thought I would post a more recent update.
I drive this road often (sports car) and it really is great.
From Hemphill to Burkeville is the best.
Lots of good sweepers and rolling hills.
The pavement is terrific, and wide.
Not a lot of traffic, some trucks with boats, more on the weekend.

Well I must say this ride was amazing.
We rode this ride on November 8th , 2008 North from Orange and the leaves were in full color for fall.
The road conditions were great.
There are fuel stops along the way if you need to stop.
Great food in Center, Texas.
Good hills, curves and rises.
Will do this ride again.

Its the section from Burkeville north you want to ride.
The Southern portions are maintained by hunting clubs and paper mills, leaving the hot sun, straight aways, and pulpwood forest to the observer.
The part from the FM 255 intersection to Fairmont is top notch for an east Texas road.
Scenery, bends, and pavement quality are awesome.
Watch for the guys tugging boats cheating into your lane!
Two thumbs up where I've stated.

This road is one of the twistyist roads around and has a great road surface.
There's very little traffic and is usually very clean.
I definately recommend it, we make the trip at least once a month.

I've rode this road many times.
The scenery changes as you go thru the Lakes - All Good!
There's not much traffic and it makes a nice laid-back Saturday ride!
There are several nice side roads, too.

I ran this road in both directions.
The Northern portion from Toledo Bend Reservoir to Center is the most twisty.
This is mostly a pine tree lined two lane road. Very few gas stations.
I spoke with a local fishing camp operator.
She told me the local law enforcment only works M-F. I passed him going the opposite direction.
