Very cool ride!
Did it 4/2/12 from Sneedville to the Cumberland Gap.
Gas in Sneedville and Harrogate but nothing between as stated.
Nice stopping point at boat launch along Powell Road where the road turns west.
Basically a valley ride after the early twistys but provides plenty of curves!

I could only select one characteristic while posting this road but it's got it all; Scenic, Sweeping turns, and Twisty.
It also has hills, hollows, and unexpected turns.
Pavement is good, very little traffic.
You will have to make a couple of stops and turns to stay on route 63 but it is well marked so just follow the signs.
If you start from the Sneedville end you may want to stay in 3rd gear for the first 3 miles or so, maby even 2nd if riding 2up.
It's steep going up the ridge and the same going down the other side with a couple of switch backs.
Near the bottom of the ridge you will see Vardy Road on the right.
If you want to take a short side trip down this road about 2 miles it will take you to the Melungeon Museum.
Just a Church and Log Cabin only open 1 day a week, but you will be in the heart of Mulungeon Country.
You will enjoy this ride, take your time.
There aren't many places to pull off, and there are no gas stations on this route.
