Great road for motorcycling!
If you are planning on doing the trip through the Village of Skaneateles, I have a great recommendation for a place to stay.
Whispering Winds Motel is a must for anyone on a Motorcycle Tour of Route 20, especially is if there is rain.
It is a little 12 unit motel about 1 mile from the village.
All rooms have carports so you can pull your motorcycle under cover for the night or if it is raining.
It is also very clean and the staff is great. It is a must!!!

Rode the stretch from Sharon Springs to Skaneateles (westbound) this past Friday.
Unfortunately the rain took away some of the charm, but it is a nice ride.
Good pavement, mostly 4 lanes, but so straight that passing opportunities are never far away.
Scenery is nice if somewhat monotonous - farms, barns, silos and corn fields, but the small villages every 10 miles or so are all unique.
As others have said, you could have a one gallon tank and a tapeworm and never worry.
Gas and food every ten miles - what could be better!
We stopped for lunch at the Tally Ho diner in Richfield Springs, which was fantastic.
Owner makes the soups and pies herself, and all our meals were quite good.
Fantastic grilled cheese and tomato sandwich.
My advice - just have soup and pie, it's all you'll need.
If you are reading this site, you'll notice there are many other recommended roads that begin from or intersect with this stretch of Route 20, so you can easily spice up your ride with some twisty/sweeper combinations, but if a relaxing cruise with frequent places to stop is what you want, then this is the road.

Actually, Route 20 is a great road the length of NY from the PA border near Erie to the Massachusetts line.
This is one of my favorite sections.
The road is in great condition and not very heavily used.
Lots of little towns for stops along the way.

US Route 20 is a Federal highway which starts out as a 2 lane highway but expands into to a four lane highway.
US Route 20 goes through many small but beautiful towns and villages.
It is very scenic and runs throught the heart of the Finger Lakes Region of Central New York State.
There is elevation, scenic vistas and many historic stops along the way.
Many places to eat and fuel stops plentiful.
US Rt 20 spans New York State from Buffalo to Albany but this section is very beautiful and one of America's great roads.
If you don't enjoy riding US Rt 20 on a perfect summer day, then I have to apologize for posting an incomplete anotation of one of my favorite scenic rides in America.
Ride Safe and enjoy what New York State has to offer for the serious motorcyclist.

More of the same from Sharon Springs to Junction of SR 146 in Guilderland.
Very nice to ride. Just sit back and enjoy the scenery.
Continuing east from SR 146 into Albany it gets increasingly "urban" complete with high traffic volume and crazy 4-wheelers.
