Rider Comments:
- "This is absolutely one of the best roads in the east. One side has the Delaware rapids; the other side has road houses and camp grounds. You can't miss Hawks Nest section for twisties. Narrowsburg has a sweet little cafe where one can overlook the river and have a fine lunch. Take your time and savor the journey." - Charlie Marinaro (6/24/10)
- "From Port Jervis to Pond Eddy Bridge, there are at least a dozen speed and noise traps. I got two tickets in a single weekend for having a modified muffler. The cop actually used the word 'straight pipe', so they know what they're doing. The state and county is cracking down HARD on noise pollution along the river, so avoid this stretch if your exhaust system is unmuffled or modded." - 'Hoggz' (11/17/09)
- "NY-SR97 is great. Nice views of river, mountains, decent curves, low traffic volume. Highly recommended. No traffic enforcement at all when I rode the entire length." - Anonymous (7/28/09)
- "Once you get out of the traffic jams in Port Jervis you'll really enjoy this road. It's known as a "Scenic Byway" with signs to prove it. Stop at the Hawks Nest to look down over the cliffs to the Delaware River below. On a good day it will be full of tubers and canoes, while Rt 97 will be full of bikes and riders of all types!! Stop at Cedar Rapids for good burgers (biker friendly). A little further north in Lackawaxen is a bridge built by Mr. Roebling of Brooklyn Bridge fame. This was built first. Narrowsburg is a nice small town. Park just before the bridge going back into PA and take in the river at this spot. It's one of the deepest sections. It goes further north but I've never had enough time to take it in on my day trips. This could also be labeled scenic and twisty. NY State Police heavely patrol, use caution and watch your speed." - Rider from Warrington, PA (8/31/08)
- "This road covers it all! From the "Twisties" of "The Hawks Nest" with its cliff side views and scenic overlooks of the Delaware River to the long sweeping run up the Delaware River. Plenty of stops and camping. Check out "Cedar Rapids" a very Biker friendly joint, good food, drink, and camping!" - Rider from Chester, NY (6/23/08)
- "This is a wonderful road. I don't know if you plan to put any photos on your pages, but here is one of Route 97 by the Hawks Nest". http://www.pbase.com/tomfarr/image/87184763/medium and http://www.pbase.com/tomfarr/image/67027296/large. Thanks for a GREAT website!" - Rob Valdez (1/31/08)
- "The section by Port Jervis follows the Delaware River and twists along a VERY scenic area as the view opens up in front of you." - David Perry (9/11/06)
- "This is a great route. The "Hawks Nest" is fantastic and it's a hell of a way to start out of Port Jervis. The road is in great condition. This is a must ride!" - Rider from Collegeville, Pennsylvania (8/13/06)
- "Beautiful, smooth, two lane highway follows the upper Delaware River Valley along the NY/PA border. Beautiful river views, over mountains, with long sweeping curves. There is a fabulous section of twisties right outside of Port Jervis. Rt. 97 follows the old Erie RR mainline." - Gene DiGilio
