I grew up in Camillus and have driven/ridden this stretch many times.
It used to be really twisty and narrow, but a few yrs ago (~20 yrs) they straightened the curves out some and widened the road.
It is still a fun run and I ride it when I can.
About 1/2 mile out of Camillus there is a water pipe sticking out of the hillside with running spring water.
On a hot day after riding, the water is icy cold and delicious.
The road has a wooded hillside rising on one side and a drop into the valley floor on the other.
Nine Mile Creek runs through the Valley running from Otisco Lake to Onondaga Lake, near Syracuse.
Right next to the road, on the lower side you can still see the remnants of an old feeder creek that was built to 'feed' the old grain Feed Mill in Camillus.
The Creek also runs directly next to the Camillus Cutlery Company, makers of Camillus knives.
Unfortunately, the 'shop' cutlery went out of business recently.
Continue south thru Marcellus on 174 and take a ride around Otisco Lake.
