This road has changed, and unfortunately not for the better.
The Alamance County section (from the Haw River bridge to Snow Camp) has started to deteriorate.
In addition, new 45 MPH signs have recently been posted along the Orange County section.
It's still more pleasant than either I-40 or NC-54 west of Chapel Hill, but not nearly as much fun as it used to be.
- Rider from Durham, NC (8/24/14)
A straightforward ride with views of 20th century homesteads and small family farms.
Good roads. Limited gas/eats.
- T. Breeze (9/1/12)
The Orange County (eastern) section has now been freshly repaved, making a good ride even better.
Combine with SR-49 and/or Old Liberty Road for a more interesting ride from the Triangle to Asheboro then US 64, and with SR 62 for a nice way to avoid I40/85 heading to Charlotte or points west.
- Rider from Durham, NC (5/6/12)
From Carrboro to Alamance County, the road is bumpy in the middle track.
After it crosses NC 87, the pavement is extremely nice.
A very sweet ride all the way to Greensboro.
Stop at the 'Ye Olde Country Kitchen' in Snow Camp for a country style buffet at a good price.
Avoid Sunday mid-day as the place is packed.
- T. Byrd (10/3/09)
A nice country road with some twisty sections and nice sweepers.
